Gum Litter Taskforce TidyTowns Awards Since 2007, the Gum Litter Taskforce has sponsored five awards in the national TidyTowns competition. The aim of the Gum Litter Taskforce awards is to raise awareness of gum litter throughout the whole community and to reward local organisations that are working to reduce the incorrect disposal of chewing gum. A prize is awarded to the highest scoring towns in the various TidyTowns population categories, which are: village, small town, large town and urban centre. Each category winner receives a prize of €1,000 and an additional prize of €1,000 is awarded to the overall winner. Each entry is judged on how the local community has been made aware of gum litter and has been encouraged to dispose of gum responsibly. The GLT competition particularly focuses on the school environment, local community groups and residents associations and partnership with local retailers. TidyTowns groups and residents associations are also encouraged to promote a good gum disposal message by carrying out awareness initiatives such as competitions and also assessing if gum litter has been reduced in the local community.
